Its job is to provide a sturdy, yet vertically adjustable, connection point between the main support structure and the aluminum rail that holds the panels.

2. Key Components & Characteristics:

The name describes a two-part system:

Hanger Bolt: This is not a standard bolt. It is a specialized fastener that has machine screw threads on one end and a wood screw or self-tapping thread on the other end, or sometimes threads on both ends. In solar mounting, it more commonly refers to a long, fully threaded stud or a bolt with a shoulder.

Adapter (or Bracket): This is a separate piece, often a zinc-plated or galvanized steel stamping, that has two key features:

A hole or clamp to securely grip the solar mounting rail.

A hole or channel for the hanger bolt to pass through, which includes a mechanism to lock it in place (usually a nut and washer).

3. How It Is Used:

A threaded rod is suspended from the overhead structure (e.g., a purlin).

The Hanger Bolt is attached to this threaded rod, often using coupling nuts. Its length determines the final hanging height.

The Adapter is first attached to the solar rail.

The adapter is then slid onto or placed over the bottom of the hanger bolt.

Adjustment: The system is adjusted up or down by turning the hanger bolt in the coupling nuts, raising or lowering the entire rail.

Locking: Once the perfect height and level are achieved, locknuts and washers on the hanger bolt are tightened against the adapter, securing everything firmly in place.
