1. Function & Purpose:

The Mid Clamp performs two critical jobs:

Secures Panels: It clamps down the outer frames of two adjacent solar panels simultaneously, holding them firmly to the rail underneath.

Creates Spacing: It automatically maintains a precise, manufacturer-recommended gap (usually 10-15mm or ~1/2 inch) between the panels. This space is crucial for thermal expansion, drainage, and preventing stress on the glass.

2. Key Characteristics:

Design: A single, solid piece of metal, usually with a central "body" and two "arms" or "jaws" that extend over the frames of the two adjacent panels.

Material: Almost always made from anodized aluminum (for corrosion resistance and lightweight properties) with a stainless steel bolt (typically SS 304 or 316).

Installation: The clamp's body sits in the channel of the mounting rail. A single bolt is tightened, which pulls the clamp down, forcing the two jaws to press down on the panel frames, locking everything in place.

3. How It Is Used:

Mid Clamps are used between panels. For a row of multiple panels, the sequence of components on the rail is:

End Clamp -> Solar Panel -> Mid Clamp -> Solar Panel -> Mid Clamp -> Solar Panel -> End Clamp

4. Key Advantages:

Speed & Efficiency: A single bolt secures two panels, drastically speeding up installation.

Uniformity: Ensures consistent spacing and a clean, professional appearance across the entire array.

No Drilling Required: The clamping system requires no holes to be drilled in the rail or the panel frames, preserving warranties and material integrity.

Versatility: Most mid clamps are adjustable to accommodate different panel frame thicknesses (e.g., 30mm, 35mm, 40mm).

5. Important Considerations:

Torque Specification: It is vital to tighten the bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque value. Under-tightening can lead to panels shifting; over-tightening can damage the panel frame or the clamp.

Compatibility: The clamp must be compatible with the specific profile of the mounting rail (e.g., it must fit snugly into the channel) and the thickness of the solar panel frames.

Positioning: It must always clamp down on the strongest part of the panel frame, never on the glass itself.
